Marc Johnson

I have come to understand myself as a Sense-Maker and Possibility-Worker, happiest when expressing this in the “social” and entrepreneurial domains.

I have an MBA from UCT, and 25 years work experience in a wide range of environments (corporate, small business, start-up, NGO, Government).

I spent the first 10 years of my career in IT and Project Management in a corporate context, mostly within the financial services industry.  After completing my MBA in 1997, my social and entrepreneurial orientation began to shape the environments within which I worked, and as a development consultant I grew my Project Management skills and experience mostly within the low-cost housing and SMME sectors (e.g. Habitat for Humanity; Gauteng Enterprise Propeller). From 2010 this included an emphasis on lecturing, training, facilitation and mentoring.

At heart I am “inspired by possibility”. “How could things be?”; “How should things be?”. I have come to understand that this is really what drives both my entrepreneurial and social orientation. Other motivators for me are variety; freedom of lifestyle; originality; autonomy; risk-taking and ability-utilisation.  I value integrity, as this is how trust is built. Trust in turn unlocks good energy and is a worthy base from which to build sustainable businesses and society.

When “inspired by possibility” is joined with my social-orientation it manifests as a desire to Empower and Inspire people to discover, explore and expand their own (and their own business’) possibilities, as well as a desire to explore more socially-conscious models of business and society.
