Business Engage GUEST SPEAKER : VICTOR SNYDERS

Business Engage is a membership-driven organisation that promotes opportunities for individuals and business owners through networking, mentorship, training, collaboration, entrepreneurship development and support.

One of the benefits of the organisation is a networking event, the Hot Tables event, which has been running in South Africa since July 2006 where they have co-ordinated 100-120 people consistently at these successful events.

The idea of these evenings is to offer attendees of the event an inspirational discussion with an expert in their field in an intimate small group environment. These events are run as learning and networking opportunities and include 7-10 hosts who are experts in their various fields as well as a guest speaker who speaks for 25-30 minutes.

The invited experts stay at their allocated table and address a topic of their choice or just have free flow conversation but co-ordinated by the host.  Before the event brief personal profiles of the hosts are e-mailed to all who will be attending the event.  The attendees gravitate to the table of their choice over a 3 course dinner i.e. starters, main course, pudding depending on the expertise they want to gain or the business linkages they want to make.

Victor Snyders is an entrepreneur and student of life.

He is a qualified Architect and also studied towards a B.Com degree and an MBA. He also has a post-graduate degree from the University of Life…

After 20 years in the corporate world and owning his own businesses, he realised that business is sick and in a state of imbalance because they are still male dominated. It's no secret that women have had to play a certain game to make it in the business world, i.e. be the bitchy boss, dress down their femininity, or abide by the rules of a hierarchical structure. This needs to be addressed and the entire approach needs to be re-evaluated.

Victor is now the CEO of Skin, Body & Health Renewal and partner to Dr Maureen Allem, the founder of this highly successful holistic and integrative anti-aging company. He is the Bold and she is the Beautiful, she is the Beauty and he is the Beast…they are a cohesive unit and the perfect example of male and female energy in balance.

Every business has an energy of its own, and that energy needs to be balanced.  Masculinity has always been given a higher spot on the pedestal with regards to running a business. Both femininity and masculinity are incredibly powerful and important to running, building and maintaining a thriving company. In order to have a profitable business the balance is necessary. The masculine side is what propels us ahead whereas tapping into our femininity is what will build those long lasting client relationships.

As we all know we all have both feminine and masculine sides and it surfaces differently in everyone. These energies can appear different in all of our relationships and different situations.  We can lean more toward our feminine energy within romantic partnerships while we exude and tap into a more masculine energy in the way we go about our business.

Running a business is like parenting, it requires a father and mother energy. We need to be aware of the roles we play, the energy we project and the way we treat our staff, because that is most likely how we treat our customers as well.

What are the roles women play in business? What value do they bring? Does it matter if the MD of the company is a male or female and why?

Women are different and businesses need their attributes. Masculine energy allows you to run your business more effectively. Masculine energy is “outward” focused, and likes to take action. The masculine energy can take risks and weather the results. It is assertive and self-protecting and without enough masculine energy, you can become weak and passive.

Feminine energy is extremely useful to have when you are providing your service. This energy is “receptive” and makes you an incredibly good listener. The feminine side is warm and open to others. It is nurturing and intensely relational, helping you to take care of people. These are wonderful qualities that allow you to connect with your clients on a deep level and really understand their needs.

"There is a sweet spot for women in business that allows us to bring the most powerful qualities of the divine feminine to our leadership while maintaining enough masculine energy to move things forward."  - Alexis Martin Neely
