The Art of the Business Pitch
One of the most important things a business owner can do is learn how to speak about their business in a way that excites others. The business (or elevator) pitch – so named because it should last no longer than the average elevator ride – is far too important to take casually, because it’s one of the most effective (and cheapest) methods to reach new clients.
Until you are able to speak an inspiring 30-second commercial about your value to the world and what you have to offer, why would the world want to buy from you? Nobody else gets up in the morning to sell you. The only person on earth with that responsibility is you. So, what’s the secret of an effective business pitch, besides practice, practice, practice?
Join Xtraordinary Women and Robyn Young for an elevator pitch workshop, where you will learn how to structure, write and deliver your elevator pitch in a way that is clear, concise and compelling.
ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER:
Driven by the need to be authentic in her work, Robyn Young founded Brandheart Marketing and Personal Branding in 2009. Robyn is passionate about aligning personal values and business goals, and believes that energy and drive are only sustainable if motivation is from within. Her extensive marketing and branding skills come from 20 years in the marketing trenches, working at a senior level on brands such as Cameo Pantihose, Yardley Cosmetics, Cal-C-Vita, Shell, Toyota, Safari Dried Fruit, Mainstay, Damelin and INTEC College, where she achieved numerous accolades, particularly for her talents in strategic insights and mentoring of staff.
Robyn’s belief that “Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one’s courage” (Anais Nin) led to the creation of her business, which specialises in helping people turn their passion to purpose. Robyn is a regular speaker at SME events on doing business according to one’s highest values and how to market this authentic voice. To find out more: www.brandheart.co.za

Fatal Business Mistakes
SMME BUSINESS BREAKFAST @ CENTRAL
Fatal Business Mistakes
with
Lorna Powe
Are you still working long hours to make a profit in your business? Are you continuously battling with Cash Flow issues? Dealing with Staff problems? Working on how to ensure that you sell more to people who will pay you? And all of this you have to deal with on your own...
The mistakes that businesses make are less about the idea and more about the things that are not so obvious, but can be totally deadly. These mistakes are equal opportunity killers I’ve seen Corporate fail through the same mistakes– it’s just that the smaller business may not have the deep pockets to recover!
FOCAL(friends of Central Library) invite you to the next SMME Business Breakfast to hear from Lorna how you can improve the way you do your business
Date: Thursday 19 April
Time: 7:15am - 9:00am
Place: Central Library, cor Darling & Parade Street,Cape Town
Cost: R15:00 payable on entrance
RSV:P: Phone 021 467 1542 or SMS to 083 539 8442 ( giving your name and number of persons coming) or email to focalmr@gmail.com

Workmans Compensation Return of Earnings which is due by 31st March 2012.
The main reason for this email is to point out some disturbing news about this year's Workmans Compensation Return of Earnings which is due by 31st March 2012.
It started out as a simple question here -
http://www.theforumsa.co.za/forums/showthread.php/11723-Return-of-Earnings-(WCC-COIDA)
Have you received a WCC return of earnings form yet?
It seems no-one has, apparently because they haven't been posted yet! The bad news is despite this being the WCC's fault, feedback says they will still be levying late return penalties anyway if your return is received after 31st March 2012.
It is a crazy situation - and not the only thing going wrong at the office of the Workmans Compensation Commissioner (as you will see if you follow that link above).
The good news is a member has managed to get a copy of the return in Excel format - attached to post 8 here
http://www.theforumsa.co.za/forums/showthread.php/3057-Workmans-Compensation-Earnings-return-form
so hopefully that will help you if you have the dubious pleasure of having to submit this return.
My concern now moves to people who are going to get hit by this unfair penalty if nothing is done - and perhaps you can help.
If you know a business owner, or someone in management at a company, forward them this message.
If you have your own experience of WCC madness, add a message in the thread (first link above).
And if you know someone who might have the influence to stir things up at the office of the Commissioner, could you please pass this message on to them too.
