07 August - Xtraordinary Women: Somerset West Networking Event

TOPIC: The Power of You – Why The World Needs You to be You
Being unique is not something the world usually celebrates. In an age of conformity, copy cats and conformity our uniqueness is seldom seen as a strength. I believe that we are born to create and it is the expression of our individual creativity that we find our ultimate happiness. Happiness is good and is the key to unlocking our creativity and greatest contribution. The real challenge lies in how best to find this in a world that appears to be working against us. This presentation explores why being unique is a good thing and why the world needs individuals who understand who they are and understand what it is they wish to contribute. It looks at this challenge form three aspects:

Be Unique
A look at why being unique is such a challenge and how other people affect the view of who we really are. I also look at how best to understand uniqueness in a way that is authentic, affirmative and encouraging.

Be Useful

We all search for meaning or purpose and this aspect looks at how to craft who we are into something that is useful to there and in so doing create meaning. I also look at life stages and what this means for crafting a life journey of meaning.

Be Remarkable
This is a look at what it takes to stand out - what it means to be really good at what you do and why this is important for being happy and fulfilled. It also looks at what stands in our way and why so many people never quite make it.

About our Guest Speaker:
Simon Hurry:
As Humans we have an innate desire to see beautiful things that work. Really work. Nature reminds us of this possibility every day; a multilayered complexity perfectly balanced. An eagle in flight, the human eye, And so we strive to build beautiful buildings that are intricately designed to manage the factors that must define it. We see this too in the careful thought and design of the cars we drive, in the appliances we use and in the technology that now defines our lives. But we don’t see it in the teams we work in. Well sometimes we do. But it is merely a glimpse. Hardly something that is definable. It’s ironic really. With all our knowledge, experience and collective wisdom we understand people the least. And our ability to work together is getting worse by the day. It does not have to be that way.

As a Human Strategist I specialize in understanding the complex factors that define the way we connect to the world around us. I see the big picture and focus on showing people their most perfect place. So that they can create value, meaning and satisfy a deep longing that they belong. So that they can taste their own personal success.

As a Team Architect I understand how to create beautiful, functional teams. While many focus on team building, I focus on building the team. I seek to understand the DNA, the inherent possibility and match it to the desired outcome. One person at a time.

I am not a coach. You cannot coach what is not there in the first place. I am an Architect and Engineer. I have always focused my energies on understanding people from my time studying behavioral zoology, to my time in Secondary Education and now most recently my time understanding the factors that define success. Life is all about identity, connection and creating meaning. I would like to think I can show you how. I am presently partnering with companies within the Telecoms, Retail, Financial Services, Entertainment, Consulting, Green Energy and Government sectors. For more about Simon Hurry
