Staged in collaboration with the United Nations Women division, the event aims to support the United Nations’ 7 Women Empowerment Principles and to plan for future discussion forums in this regard.

The Women’s Empowerment Principles were established for companies to embrace to empower women in the workplace and marketplace. This came about as a result of the partnership between UN-Women and the UN Global Compact.

The different objectives of the 7 Women Empowerment Principles include :

• Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
• Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and non-discrimination.
• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers.
• Promote education, training and professional development for women.
• Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women.
• Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
• Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

These principles will be the basis for discussions at each table.

The business networking event is also in support of the International Labour Organisation Month of the Women Entrepreneur in Africa programme. Women entrepreneurs and products aimed at women will be showcased at the event. This opportunity is reserved for women entrepreneurs who book and pay for 5 people or more to attend the event. Numbers are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
